A. Dermal fillers are extremely safe, the majority of illers are made from hyaluronic acid which is found naturally in our bodies. 56% is found in the skin and the rest can be found in our eyes and joints. However, as with all products injected into the body there is a very small risk of an allergic reaction. You can also expect some degree of redness and swelling following treatment which usually lasts for a few days.
Q. Will I need a skin test?
A. No, the products used are made of hyaluronic acid, a product which is found naturally in the body. None of the products used are derived from animals. Thus, eliminating the need for a skin test.
Q. How safe is hyaluronic acid?
A. Hyaluronic acid is made from non-animal products and is totally natural. It has been used for many years without any long term side effects.
Q. What does the treatment involve?
A. The filler is injected into the lines identified between you and your practitioner and plumps them out. The filler remains in the skin where it binds to water to produce a lifting and firming affect to the treated areas.
Q. How long does it take?
A. This will depend on the areas being treated and whether the use of a local anaesthetic is required. Treatments can average from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Q. Is the procedure painful?
A. The procedure is carried out by injecting, therefore it may feel uncomfortable. Local anaesthetic and ice can be used to help alleviate pain prior to injection.
Q. How long does it last?
A. Typically, the results of a dermal filler treatment can last from 6 to 9 months but this varies from person to person. The dermal filler is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body and lines, wrinkles and lips will ultimately go back to their original appearance without top up treatments.

A. No, dermal fillers are also very popular amongst men.

Q. Are dermal fillers suitable for every age and skin type?
A. Dermal fillers do not have an upper and lower age limit (except for children). But if you have very thin skin you will need a different treatment than someone who has thicker skin. Your practitioner will discuss treatment options during the consultation process.
